Description
3/4 cup cornmeal
3/4 t salt
1 cup flour
1 cup milk
1/3 cup sugar
1 egg, well beaten
3 t baking powder
2 T shortening, melted
Mix and sift dry ingredients; add milk, egg, and shortening; bake in shallow buttered pan 20 minutes in hot oven (420° f).
For shortening, butter, chicken fat or beef fat may be used.
