1 cup of sifted flour ¾ teaspoon salt 1 stick butter or margarine ¾ cup white sugar 1 egg yolk ½ teaspoon vanilla
Cream butter and gradually blend sugar. Add egg yolk and vanilla and mix well. Add flour and salt shape small balls and put on cookie sheet two inches apart. Bake 5 minutes remove from oven and dent the thumb cookies with the measuring spoon that is the ½ teaspoon for denting. Return cookies to the oven and bake 12 to 13 minutes longer. Remove to cooling rack and immediately fill the dent.
