Description
Ingredients:
1 cup butter (soft)
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 egg yolk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla (dry or 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract)
3 1/2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup milk or buttermilk
powdered sugar for dusting
Preparation:
Mix butter, sugar and eggs. In another bowl mix the flour and salt. Mix liquid and dry items together, adding the milk a little at a time, until a soft dough is made. Spread 2/3 of this dough in a 9x13 pan, spreading apricot jam or any other favored jam over the dough. The remainder of the dough roll into small cylinders and arrange them in cross shapes. Bake for 20-25 minutes in 350°F oven.
After the dish is cooled, cut into little squares and top with powdered sugar. NOTE: You can add different kinds of spices to this dough. Or change the topping and prepare plain cookies. For example, you can add cinnamon, lime juice or lime zest, almond milk, orange juice, etc. And for the spread you can use different sweet compotes.
