Aidjian Family
Description
This is a photograph of the Aidjian family. Charlie Aghajanian's mother was an Aidjian. His sisters are the two women on the left. The one standing in black is Sophie who was able to make it to this country and married Khatchadour Keosaian and settled in Yonkers. Her sister, Aroussiag, dressed in white on the left, was murdered along with her husband Torkum (also an Aidjian) in front of her children. Is is assumed that the boy was murdered. The young girl on the upper right was taken forcefully by a Turkish soldier to be married. Her name and her brother's name are unknown. The two little girls in front are Dirouhi and Haigouhi. Sophie raised money to bring them to this country by making beaded purses to sell, but unfortunately Haigouhi spent time in and out of institutions. Sophie also brought over her two brothers Charles and John. The father of Arsoussiag, Sophie, Charlie and John was murdered in the 1890s in a series of massacres that happened at that time. Upon seeing this, their mother killed herself upon giving birth to her son John, leaving the family orphaned. Sadly, we know very little about this branch of the family.

Thank you for this amazing project. Dirouhi in the front is my grandmother on my mother's side.
